Freud named the complex after the character in Sophocles  Oedipus Rex  who accidentally kills his father and marries his mother. In the Greek myth, Oedipus is abandoned at birth and thus does not know who his parents are. It is only after he had killed his father and married his mother that he learns  their true identities. How Does the Oedipus Complex Work? In  psychoanalytic theory, the Oedipus complex refers to the childs desire for sexual involvement with the opposite sex parent, particularly a boys erotic attention to his mother. This desire is kept out of conscious awareness through repression, but Freud believed that it still had an influence over a childs behavior and played a role in development. Freud suggested that the Oedipus complex played an important role in the phallic stage of psychosexual development.?? He also believed that successful completion of this stage involved identifying with the same-sex parent which ultimately would lead to developing a mature sexual identity. According to Freud, the boy wishes to possess his mother and replace his father, who the child views as a rival for the mothers affections. The Oedipal complex occurs in the phallic stage of psychosexual development between the ages of three and five. The phallic stage serves as an important point in forming sexual identity. During this stage of development, Freud suggested that the child develops a sexual attraction to his or her opposite-sex parent and hostility toward the same-sex parent. Signs of the Oedipus Complex   So what are some of the signs of the Oedipal complex? Freud suggested that there are a number of behaviors that children engage in that are actually a result of this complex. Some behavioral manifestations of the complex might involve a boy expressing possessiveness of his mother and telling his father not to hug or kiss his mom. Little girls at this age may declare that they plan to marry their fathers when they grow up. The Electra Complex The analogous stage for girls is known as the  Electra complex  in which girls feel desire for their fathers and jealousy of their mothers. The term Electra complex was introduced by Carl Jung to describe how this complex manifests in girls.?? Freud, however, believed that the term Oedipus complex referred to both boys and girls, although he believed that each sex experiences it differently. Freud also suggested that when girls discover that they do not have a penis, they develop penis envy and resentment toward their mothers for sending her into the world so insufficiently equipped. Eventually, this resentment gives way to identification with her mother and the process of internalizing the attributes and characteristics of her same-sex parent. It was Freuds views of female sexuality that was perhaps his most heavily criticized. The psychoanalyst Karen Horney refuted Freuds concept of penis envy and instead suggested that men experience womb envy due to their inability to bear children. Freud himself admitted that  his understanding of women  was perhaps less than fully realized. We know less about the sexual life of little girls than on boys, he explained. But we need not feel ashamed of this distinction. After all, the sexual life of adult women is a dark continent for psychology. How Is the Oedipus Complex Resolved? At each stage in Freuds theory of psychosexual development, children face a developmental conflict that must be resolved in order to form a healthy adult personality. In order to develop into a successful adult with a healthy identity, the child must identify with the same-sex parent in order to resolve the conflict of the phallic stage. So how does the child go about resolving the Oedipus complex? Freud suggested that while the primal  id  wants to eliminate the father, the more realistic  ego  knows that the father is much stronger. In addition, the boy also has a positive attachment to the father.?? The id, as you may recall, is the primal source of energy that seeks to immediately satisfy all of the unconscious urges. The ego is the part of the personality that emerges to mediate between the urges of the id and the demands of reality. According to Freud, the boy then experiences what he called castration anxiety - a fear of both literal and figurative emasculation. Freud believed that as the child becomes aware of the physical differences between males and females, he assumes that the females penis has been removed and that his father will also castrate him as a punishment for desiring his mother. In order to resolve the conflict, the defense mechanism known as identification kicks in. It is at this point that the  super-ego  is formed. The super-ego becomes a sort of inner moral authority, an internalization of the father figure that strives to suppress the urges of the id and make the ego act upon these idealistic standards. In  The Ego and the Id, Freud explained the childs superego retains the character of the childs father and that the strong feelings of the Oedipus complex are then repressed. Outside influences including social norms, religious teachings, and other cultural influences help contribute to the repression of the Oedipal complex. It is out of this that the childs conscience emerges, or his overall sense of right and wrong. In some cases, however, Freud also suggested that these repressed feelings could also result in an unconscious sense of guilt. While this guilt may not be overtly felt, it can still have an influence over the individuals conscious actions. What If the Oedipus Complex Is Not Resolved? So what happens when the Oedipus complex is not successfully resolved? As when conflicts at other psychosexual stages are not resolved, a fixation at that point in development can result. Freud suggested that boys who do not deal with this conflict effectively become mother-fixated while girls become father-fixated. This can lead to challenges in achieving mature adult romantic relationships, and conflicts with same-sex competitiveness. Psychoanalysis focuses on helping resolve these conflicts.

There are many categories of discrimination and inequality, including those aimed at people due to their race, sexual orientation, and gender. Gender inequality in specific has gone through a vast amount of changes, especially as women eventually began to speak out against the rules and laws that bound them. They protested against their lack of rights, the notion of being entirely dependent on their fathers and husbands, and the idea that they were even to be viewed as less than human by men. Because of this, it is almost impossible to track back the root of gender equality to one instance in history, as across the world before countries were even connected through exploration, women were thought of the inferior gender. Unbundled Business Models Arm’s Focus on IP Free Essays

This is my first not-technical blog post more towards the business side which I know very little about but still worth trying. I will be discussing the â€Å"unbundled business model† and why ARM is focusing only on designing IP cores. I came across the term unbundled business model in a book called â€Å"Business model generation† by Alexander OsterWalder and Yves Pigneur. As most electronic engineers will be aware, ARM holdings which stands for Advanced RISC Machines (Acorn RISC Machines at time of foundation) is a British Intellectual Property licensing company. So basically they license their proprietary processor cores to semiconductor companies like Apple, texas instruments, Freescale, Qualcomm, NVIDIA etc. These cores are specifically popular in mobile computing because of their low power consumption characteristics. In fact almost all of the recent smart phone processors are based on an ARM core. Err I guess we are diverting to electronics again, coming back to the company. So the company has a unique business model, unlike other semiconductor companies like Intel or microchip who design and manufacture their processors. ARM is specialized in designing the barebones of the processor, the core (which technically is a bunch of hardware synthesis files containing thousands of lines of Verilog code, or any other language) and gives out this code to semiconductor companies to let them manufacture their own customized processor. Unbundling Business Models: The term â€Å"unbundled corporation† was coined by John Hagel and Marc Singer and it suggests that there are three types of businesses: Customer Relationship businesses, product innovation businesses and Infrastructure businesses. These sectors require different skill sets are separate entities of a corporation or ideally a separate business itself. The role of Customer Relationship business is acquiring customer and building relationships with them. Similarly product innovation businesses are involved in development of new products and services, while the role of infrastructure businesses is to manage the platform for high volume, repetitive tasks like assembly lines, logistics etc. ARM can be effectively placed into the product innovation category; they are focused on development of their IP cores for which they are well-known for. This keeps the company’s operations aligned with the target which is to build low-power high performance cores. Their business is centered on engineers, talented and creative minds which design their products and keep them ahead of the competition. Customers are not their focus, well at least not directly, customer relationship are taken care at multiple levels by the chip manufacturer, the equipment manufacturer and then the end-user company. This is a win-win situation as the result is a better product and customer satisfaction. Another company which recently unbundled the business is Dell Inc. hich shifted its focus from manufacturing to customer relationship and marketing. Reason being contract manufacturers like Clevo produce computers more cheaply as their entire focus is on finding efficiencies in manufacturing. This means Dell can focus on the brand and building customer relationship which is a much more robust business plan. It is the basic question â€Å"What business are we in? † and finding what is the key business activity. If we try to manage activities across too broad a waterfront, we run a risk of losing our edge across more and more of his waterfront. The business model has worked out well for ARM and in year 2010, 6. 1 billion ARM based chips were sold. The final term, affect, is defined as any feelings, emotions and moods that a learner brings to bear on a task (Ellis-Nimrod, 2012). Motivation and affect can be said to be intertwined in forming Hot Cognition. Hot cognition focuses on the mental processes that are driven by an individuals desires (goals) and feelings (affect) (Sundae, 1999). The two (motivation and affect) are important because of how they may influence our thought processes that are used to arrive at judgments and influence which concepts or beliefs are applied to judgment. In addition to his hot cognition influences our judgments in terms of how we process information. Take for example a scenario of two women, Sally and Jane. Jane has just moved into Sally apartment building and no one knows anything about her except that she is always seen going out at nights and coming in early mornings. Motivation can be seen as a very important factor in our lives. It is the most basic drive for all our actions and can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. Our basic behaviors and feelings are affected by our inner drive to succeed over lifes challenges while we set goals for ourselves. Even our ability to carry out our everyday functions such as eating or working is affected by motivation. The Cognitive perspective of motivation focuses on how it is that our mental processes affect motivation (Ellis-Nimrod, Cakewalks, Achaean, Andrews, Shore, 2010). Simply put this is saying that an individuals motivation is based mainly on how it is that the person tries to understand all that is happening around them. If one has no understanding of the world around them then it is highly unlikely that they will be motivated to get involved in anything and will feel as an outcast among others. Ellis-Nimrod et al. (2010) further stated that the Social Cognitive Perspective placed an emphasis on how a persons motivation is very dependent on their future expectations. The Goal Orientation Theory of Motivation outlines how it is that our cognitive presentations determine the type of goal we pursue. It brings out two main tenets that an individual is motivated by either performance goals or mastery goals. Performance goals are those which arise from a persons desire to outdo someone while mastery goals are those emerging from having strong interests in a task to the point where it is important that you do extremely well at it or aim to do better than before (Australian Institute of Professional Counselors, 2010). Three girls are a part of a football team, girl A, girl B and girl C. Girls A and C have been best friends for most of their lives and so they eave a genuine love for the sport. This then allows them to be on top of their game and is ranked as the top scorers for the team. For each match they aim to score more goals than the last match, this would be seen as a mastery goal. Girl B on the other hand holds the view that she is a better player than Girls A and C and so if they score two goals per match she tries to outdo them by scoring three (performance goal). In the book, Social Cognition, Sundae (1999) outlined how directional goals and accuracy goals impact ones judgment. A directional goal is that which motivates the individual to draw a reticular judgment. On the other hand accuracy goals actually motivate the individual to end up with the best possible solution. In a final year Social Cognition class are two friends Shank and Oral who have an upcoming mid- semester exam. Previously their GAP was getting low and so this final examination would determine if they are going to meet graduation requirements. Shank is a potential A student but does not take enough interest in his school work, however since his last disappointing test results he has decided that he is going to put in the extra studying to get his grades up. Shames motivation would be an example of an accuracy goal because he is going to invest greater efforts into the task at hand so this can actually improve their judgment through better strategies for reasoning. Accuracy goals can improve judgment under some circumstances but can make it worse under others. Oral is the opposite of Shank, he does not go to class nor is interested in studying for the test because he believes that he is going to fail navys so it makes no sense to study for the test (directional goal) . This is the problem with directional goals they impact our judgment by creating biases in our beliefs. So it could be that Oral could have mastered the examination as well but his judgment has been biased and so he just accepts his failure. Our outcome dependency is one way in which motivation bias judgment. Outcome dependency is where in order to achieve a goal we create a bias of our judgments about the people around us in order to make that goal seem more convincing. For example five random persons are placed on a quiz team, none had any prior interaction but they will hold each other high in esteem that they are competent enough to carry out the task. This is similar to evidence found by Birched et al. As cited in Sundae, 1999, p. 21 5) where participants part of a dating to study rated their potential partners in a positive light as opposed to others. When new information has been given which ends up conflicting what it is that is already known then there is some feeling of discomfort (Ellis-Nimrod, 2012). This is known as cognitive dissonance. Arousal is a big factor to contributor to our judgments. When referring to arousal it is more to the constraints of brain stimulation rather than the basic pleasure of satisfying our sexual needs. With reference to cognitive dissonance it was put forward that studies have showed that errors are more likely to conform in order to reduce tension in situations (Sundae, 1999). If one is asked to write against something that they do not agree to they will not object due to motivation. However this view was somewhat challenged by Daryl BEMA saying that if a person chooses to do something that they are not in favor of then this is actually their self, perception and as such they are motivated to change their attitudes. Damascus (as cited in Sundae, 1 999, p. 21 8) stated that those who suffered from brain damage were more likely to engage in danger even when they are aware of such danger. It can be said that due to brain damage these persons have less feelings of or no arousal at all and so they are susceptible to making bad decisions. Our moods when acting as a source of information can actually affect our judgment. The mood congruent of judgment is that one will give a positive answer when in a good mood and respond negatively when we are experiencing bad moods (Sundae 1999). Bower (as cited in Sundae 1999) found that: Network model our brains tend to keep our memories in nodes, which it then connects with associated other memories. Nodes can be semantic (with straightforward meaning) or affective (with emotional meaning). Thus we may have a node for happiness, with which are associated all our happy memories. Nodes can also inhibit one another (a form or negative association). Thus when we are happy it is difficult to think of sad things, and vice versa. Similarly it was found by Johnson and Trotsky (1983) that mood congruence effects shows that those who are in positive affective states have a higher expectation of successful goal attainment when compared to those of negative affective states who may have a higher likelihood judgment that they will not be able to attain their goals. Schwartz ND Color (1983) suggested that a person will rely more on how they are feeling at the moment to form a judgment. People experiencing positive core affect are likely to make progress judgments less frequently and more favorably, which will lead to greater persistence in following the current course of action. In contrast, people in negative affective states will be less persistent in maintaining the intended course of action by making progress judgments more frequently, thoroughly, and less favorably. Mood will affect our judgment but this is not something that is consistent. The Affect Infusion Model (AIM) is one that ensures that the effect of the affect on judgment depends on the reasoning strategy that the individual uses such as the heuristic process or the substantive process (Forges, 1994). With the heuristic process this is where one uses quick and easy shortcuts that require very little or no effort at all and our mood creates a bias unnoticeable. When using the substantive process our reasoning is more systematic and analytical so our mood does not have that much of an effect to create a bias on our judgment (Forges, 1995). Motivation and affect actually intertwine in influencing our judgments. Motivation is an important factor in everyday life. Our basic challenges while we set goals for ourselves. Our motivation also promotes our feelings of competence and self-worth as we achieve our goals.

I can use the University Library which has a number of databases or I can go to Google. When I need to research I will go to the University Library and first search the databases alphabetically and then from there I can go even further and search all databases by description. Then depending on what I am looking for, I can choose which database will best suit my needs. It is important to me to make sure that all my research comes from credible resources and I know that library will give me just that. â€Å"Educational and government sites are generally more likely to have been screened and selected by educated professionals than other sites. Look for URLs ending in .edu (these sites originate at an educational institution) and .gov (these sites originate at government agencies). A URL (Universal Resource Locator) is the string of text and numbers that identifies an Internet Site. All the sites listed in the Research Navigator databases have been selected to maximize reliability and credibility.† It is also important for me to be able to have access to â€Å"peer-reviewed articles† which I can find in databases such as EBSCOhost or Gale PowerSearch. â€Å"Peer-reviewed means that before an article is accepted for publication within a journal, it is first reviewed and corrected by a subject expert. For example, to find some in the Gale PowerSearch database, do a search and then click on the â€Å"Peer-Reviewed† tap at the top of the list. The way I can identify a peer-reviewed article: Lengthy, in-depth articles, often presenting original research Frequent in-text citations and a concluding Reference List/Bibliography Language that indicates expert knowledge of the subject Few illustrations except graphs, charts, or tables to summarize data Authors affiliated with universities or research organizations Journal titles referring to an academic discipline or specialized field of study ithaca.edu/library/research/scholar.php Upholding Academic Honesty The definition of Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own. When you steal someone else’s work it is illegal and unethical. It is important for me to remember that the consequences out way the benefits. Some of the consequences are a failing grade for the paper and in the course itself. There could also be a permanent notice placed in my student records. I think the worst thing that could happen to me would be to get suspended from the University. Plagiarism can happen accidently or intentionally but the outcome is still the same either way. Here are ways that accidental plagiarism can happen: Example 1 Copying a quotation without using quotation marks. Example 2 Eliminating a citation for information that comes from a source. Example 3 Using vague or incorrect citations. Example 4 Paraphrasing information incorrectly. Example 5 Writing material very close to the original- changing only a few words by using synonyms. Example 6 Copying and pasting a source from the Internet without using quotation marks or citations. Intentional Plagiarism Example 1 Eliminating a citation for information that comes from another source. Example 2 Using an incorrect citation so that the reader cannot locate the source. Example 3 Using another student’s work as your own. Example 4 Purchasing an essay from an Internet website. Example 5 Using an essay from a free Internet website. Example 6 Copying a quotation without using quotation marks. Example 7 Writing material very close to the original- changing only a few words by using synonyms. (Center for Writing Excellence, Types of Plagiarism) The Center for Academic Integrity at Duke University defines academic integrity as a commitment to five fundamental values: honesty (a search for truth in work and in communication), trust (being true to your word), fairness (contributing to a fair academic environment), respect (accepting and honoring the opinions of others), and responsibility (making fair and honest choices). I must take the time to read the assignments, take proper notes, use citations and paraphrases, and always remember to give credit to any source that I may use. This way, I will never have a problem with plagiarizing. Setting and Achieving Goals There are two types of goals, long term and short term. Long term goals are goals that usually take a considerable amount of time to achieve. These are things like getting going to school to get a degree or reaching a certain position within a company. There are also long term goals that have no time frame. Short term goals can span just a few hours or take up to a few months to achieve. When I sit down and think about what I want to make of my life, I will write out on paper, making two columns, and list the things I would like to achieve. The first column will have my long term goals which are getting my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in 2 years and get hired by my local police department as a Forensic Researcher and continuing on in college to get my Bachelors Degree within 4 yrs so I can become a Probation officer. These goals are aimed towards my education and job placement. Now, the next column will have my short term goals, which are broken down into smaller steps so I can eventually reach the long term goals. Right now, these would be to get my reading assignments done by day 1 so I can turn in my written assignments on the days scheduled and weekly projects by Sunday. I would also like to keep a B average in all classes. When I complete the required 60 units, I can graduate and hopefully reach my goal of working for Bakersfield Police Dept in forensics. Managing Time Wisely The one thing I have learned in this class to better manage my time. By doing so, I am able to finish my work in a reasonable time frame and elevate stress. I know that the best time for me to do anything school related is in the morning. I am refreshed from a good night’s sleep and ready for the day ahead. Also, my son is in school and I can have quiet time while he is gone. Next, I plan out my day by prioritizing the things that I need to accomplish. I will break it done into 3 categories: Priority 1 items are the most important. They would be taking/picking up son from school, going to class, doing assignments, household chores. Priority 2 items are things are things that are more flexible, like running errands and keeping up with studying. Priority 3 are the things that you would like to do but can wait. By prioritizing the things I need to do this way, I am able to get done everything that I set out to do. Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention First off, the goal of reading comprehension means to have a complete understanding of what I am reading. It is important to determine the purposes of what and why I am reading. Depending on what my reading purpose is, I will follow one of the 4 guidelines defined in Keys to College Studying: Becoming an Active Thinker, (Second Edition, by Carol Carter, Joyce Bishop, and Sarah Lyman Kravits. Published by Pearson Prentice Hall. Copyright  © 2007 by Pearson Education, Inc.) They are as follows: Purpose 1: Read for understanding. Studying involves reading to comprehend concepts and details. These components depend on each other. Details help explain or support general concepts, and concepts provide a framework for remembering details. Purpose 2: Read to evaluate critically. Critical evaluation involves understanding. It means approaching material with an open mind, examining causes and effects, evaluating ideas, and asking questions that test the writer’s argument and assumptions. Critical reading brings a level of understanding that goes beyond basic information recall. Purpose 3: Read for practical application. A third purpose for reading is to gather usable information that you can apply toward a specific goal. When you read a textbook preface or an instruction booklet for a new software package, your goal is to learn how to do or use something. Reading and action usually goes hand in hand. Purpose 4: Read for pleasure. Some materials you read for entertainment, such as Sports Illustrated magazine, the latest page-turner by DaVinci Code author Dan Brown, or even novels by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. As Yale professor Harold Bloom points out, reading for pleasure gives you the opportunity to enlarge your life and to enter into â€Å"alternate realities.† â€Å"Why read?† Bloom asks. â€Å"Because you can know, intimately, only a very few people, and perhaps you never know them at all. After reading [the Thomas Mann masterpiece] The Magic Mountain you know Hans Castorp thoroughly, and he is greatly worth knowing.†(See Harold Bloom, How to Read and Why. New York: Scribner, 2000.) In my approach to reading, I will incorporate what I have learned from the SQ3R which is to first survey what I am reading: chapter elements and back matter. Then I will right out some questions: what is the topic of what I have read, and do I understand what I am reading. From there I will read and take notes, and highlight the important parts. I will then re-read some of it aloud as it helps me to understand the material and I will ask myself the questions I wrote down when I had initially skimmed it. Last but not least, I will review what I have read by going over the highlighted areas and condense the material so I can focus on the most crucial ideas. Applying Personality and Learning Styles There are 8 different types of learning styles: Verbal-Linguistic: able to communicate through language Logical-Mathematical: able to understand logical reasoning and problem solving Bodily-Kinesthetic: able to use the physical body skillfully and to take in knowledge through bodily sensation Visual-Spatial: able to understand spatial relations and to perceive and create images Interpersonal: able to relate to others, paying attention to their moods, what motivates them, and feelings Intrapersonal: the ability to understand one’s own behavior and feelings Musical: able to understand and create meaningful sound Naturalistic: able to understand features of the environment Mine is that of Interpersonal and my personality assessment says I am a Giver. For me it is important to do my studying in a well-structured, stable environment and to be more organized when it comes to scheduling my study time and assignments. I will find a creative way to help me memorize different terms, (flash cards, games, or puzzle) thus be able to turn whatever I am doing into something fun. I will seek out groups to study with so I can discuss information and get other students point of view and hopefully teach others with my point of view. I would like to learn from an Intrapersonal to cheek my emotions in check at all times and to be self-aware and from a Verbal-Linguistic the passion for reading and writing and understanding syntax and word meaning, and the art of remembering terms easily. I plan on implanting these styles of learning into all of my college courses so that I may be successful in my college endeavors. How do you end up with a composite score from 0-36 when you answer a lot more than 36 questions? In this article, I'll walk you through the three steps to calculate your ACT composite score: Calculate section raw scores Convert raw scores to scaled scores Average section scores to determine composite First, Calculate Your Raw Scores for Each Section To calculate the raw score, you simply need the number of questions answered correctly and the number of questions answered incorrectly. You get 1 point for each question answered correctly. You receive 0 points for each question answered incorrectly or each question that you skipped. The highest possible raw score for each section depends on the total number of questions asked.Unlike the SAT, the ACT does not penalize you for wrong answers. For example, in the Reading sections, there are always 4 passages with a total of 40 multiple-choice questions, so the highest possible raw score is 40.If you got all 40 questions right, your raw score would be 40.If you got 19 questions wrong and 21 questions right, your raw score would be 21.In the Math sections, there are 60 multiple-choice questions, so the highest possible raw score is 60.In English, there are 75 multiple-choice questions, so the highest possible raw score is 75. Anthrax - Essay Example They are of three types: Symptoms: The causal agent does not cause the infection immediately but requires incubation period from 7 to 60 days. The initial symptoms are similar to flu with a very high temperature > 100 F followed by coolness or sweat. It may give chest distress, difficulty in breathing, muscular fatigue. The symptoms also include non-productive cough, aching throat, headache and nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal distress, vomiting or diarrhea (Mikesell,). 1. Cutaneous anthrax (skin): The causal organism gains entry in the body through a cut or an abrasion especially when a person encounters either contaminated animal products or diseased animal. The organism establishes the infection with a raised bump similar to an insect or mosquito bite, followed by itching. After 1-2 days it develops into a vesicle which takes the form of a painless ulcer. This ulcer after 7-10 days becomes black necrotic in the centre called as eschar. The body responds to this by swelling in the adjacent lymph glands. Fever, headache and distress occur. It could be fatal if antimicrobial treatment is not given. 2. Inhalation anthrax: The incubation period varies from 2 to 60 days. The symptoms are similar to common cold or sore throat with a mild fever and muscular pain and malaise. It is not contagious but if untreated the condition results in severe breathing discomfort, shock, symptoms like pneumonia or may give rise to meningitis. It may become fatal in 24 to 36 hrs. 3. Gastrointestinal anthrax: It is more severe form of anthrax than cutaneous form, caused by the consumption of contaminated animal product. This is featured by an acute inflammation of the intestinal tract. The condition onset with nausea, vomiting with blood, followed by loss of appetite, fever and severe abdominal pain and severe diarrhea with blood. It may be fatal in 25-60% of the cases as ascites fills the abdomen, followed by shock an death within the span of 2-5 days. 4. Oropharyngeal anthrax: It is not a popular form of anthrax. This encompasses fever, swelling in the lymph nodes especially in the cervical region and severe throat pain and discomfort in swallowing. Sometimes ulcer may appear at the basal region of tongue. If condition is not cured then breathing distress occurs (http://www.bt.cdc.gov). Treatment and Prevention: The disease is not contagious but the fomites of the patients may be contaminated with the spores of the causal organism. Decontamination of people and belongings is crucial with an antimicrobial agent or with bleach especially formaldehyde as chlorine is ineffective to kill vegetative cells and also the spores. Articles can be decontaminated by boiling them in water for at least 30 mins. Timely care and antibiotic therapy can enhance the chances of survival of the victims. Therapy can be started with the oral course of antibiotics followed by intravenous doses (IV). Fluoroquinolones like ciprofloxacin (cipro), doxycycline, erythromycin, vancomycin or penicillin. However, it is this wariness that causes us to examine our contribution to the relationship to make the next one, or current one, more successful. Mexican Drug Cartels Essay

Several drug cartels are involved, such as: Sinaloa Cartel, Gulf Cartel, Juarez Cartel, Knights Templar Cartel, Tijuana Cartel, La Familia Cartel (disbanded), Los Zetas, Beltran-Leyva Cartel (disbanded), Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Independent Cartel of Acapulco, La Barredora. You could see them all as the bad guys. On the other team are the Mexican forces, consisting of the Army, Navy, Air force, the Federal police and other Mexican forces What are the sources of the conflict? What is it about? The main source of the conflict is power. All of the cartels wanted more power and money and they started fighting each other because of this. Another major cause of the conflict are the drug trafficking routes used by different cartels, the cartels want more power over each other’s routes. Relationships between/among conflicting parties? They were once all together in one massive cartel. But because of the decision of the leader of the cartel the ‘mother-cartel’ split up in many smaller cartels (See Dimension #1). What is the history of the conflict? The birth of all Mexican drug cartels is traced to former Mexican Judicial Federal Police agent Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo (â€Å"The Godfather†), who founded the Guadalajara Cartel in 1980 and controlled all illegal drug trade in Mexico and the trafficking corridors across the Mexico-USA border throughout the 1980s. He started off by smuggling marijuana and opium into the U. S. A. , and was the first Mexican drug chief to link up with Colombia’s cocaine cartels in the 1980s. Through his connections, Felix Gallardo became the point man for the Medellin cartel, which was run by Pablo Escobar. This was easily accomplished because Felix Gallardo had already established an infrastructure that stood ready to serve the Colombia-based traffickers. There were no cartels at that time in Mexico. Felix Gallardo was the lord of Mexican drug smugglers. He oversaw all operations; there was just him, his cronies, and the politicians who sold him protection. [59] However, the Guadalajara Cartel suffered a major blow in 1985 when the group’s co-founder Rafael Caro Quintero was captured, and later convicted, for the murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena. 60][61] Felix Gallardo afterwards kept a low profile and in 1987 he moved with his family to Guadalajara. According to Peter Dale Scott, the Guadalajara Cartel prospered largely because it enjoyed the protection of the Direccion Federal de Seguridad (DFS), under its chief Miguel Nazar Haro, a CIA asset. â€Å"The Godfather† then decided to divide up the trade he controlled as it would be more efficient and less likely to be brought down in one law enforcement swoop. 63] In a way, he was privatizing the Mexican drug business while sending it back underground, to be run by bosses who were less well known or not yet known by the DEA. When I think of Ethics, I think of trying to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and morally doing the right thing when it comes to making decisions. Ethics occurs throughout all different parts of our everyday lives. We begin to learn ethics at a young age and continue to learn it as we get older, according to our jobs, or our places in life. For instance, we learned that it is wrong to take someone’s toy away, or to hurt someone when we were younger. However, once we became older, we learned it is bad to distort information to make oneself look good.
